The album was a departure from the band's previous works, showcasing a alternative rock and alternative metal sound instead of nu metal and rap metal. Unlike their first two albums, the album features no rapping and instead showcase Jacoby Shaddix singing voice melodies. It was released on August 31, 2004 via Geffen Records and has been certified Gold in Canada and Platinum in America, selling more than 2.8 million units. Getting Away with Murder peaked at #17 on the Billboard 200.
